HOBOKEN, NJ – The Hartwick women's volleyball team looked to end a two-game skid on their final day at the Ducks Classic hosted by Empire 8 member, Stevens. In a match against NYU, Hartwick fell in three consecutive sets by the scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-17. The Hawks were led by sophomore setter
Jamie Reidy (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) and senior libero
Alyssa Zeitler (Chardon, OH/Berkshire) who registered 13 assists and 11 digs, respectively. 'Wick falls to 4-6 on the season while the Bobcats move up to 8-3.
The Hawks faced two separate 5-0 spurts by the Bobcats in the early going of the 1
st set including the first five points and at the 9-7 mark. Hartwick allowed NYU to rally eight consecutive points that would ultimately grant NYU a lead Hartwick could not combat to round out the introductory set.
In the second segment, the Bobcats won the first six points. Sophomore middle blocker
Rachel Jones (West Charlton, NY/Galway), on a feed from Reidy, would land a kill to pause their opponent's momentum. Unfortunately, NYU retained its dominance and would sail to a second set victory.
Hartwick kept things close in the opening sequences of the third showing only trailing by two, 6-4. NYU would widen the margin running off four straight points. Despite the spurt, the Hawks only saw themselves down four, 14-10. In the end, that would be the smallest deficit for Hartwick of the set and NYU would take the third and final set.
Junior right side
Rosa Maun (Redstone, CO/Roaring Fork) led the pack with five kills on .333 hitting. Senior outside hitter
Hannah Armstrong (Lansing, NY/Lansing) totaled four for the match.
Next, the Hawks look to obtain their first conference win of the season against Utica College on September 20
th. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
