Field Hockey Rolls Over Keuka on the Road, 5-1

KEUKA PARK, NY – The Hartwick field hockey team dominated Keuka College on the road, 5-1 in a Saturday afternoon non-conference matchup. The trio of senior captain Sarah Ryan (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) (3), freshman Abby White (Binghamton, NY/Windsor Central) and freshman Rebecca Bonini (Avon, CT/Avon) registered goals for the Hawks as they remain unbeaten on the season at 2-0. The Wolves are still winless on the year, 0-2.

Ryan recorded a game-high three goals coming at the 10-minute mark of the first half. Freshman Bella Wheeler (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) assisted the play to put the Hawks up 1-0 in the early going.

The Wolves increased the pressure following their setback. Two penalty corners went in their favor but it was a Hartwick foul that ultimately resulted in the host connecting on a goal of its own. Alyssa Orsino tallied an unassisted goal to knot the game 1-1.

Nearly four minutes after, the game endured a momentum shift and it was Hartwick seeing back-to-back corners and would ultimately lead to another score. At 19:50, freshman midfielder Abby White (Binghamton, NY/Windsor Central) sailed one in net from senior midfielder Mikaelan Stuligross (Walton, NY/Walton) to grant 'Wick another lead.

Hartwick would attempt five more shots to Keuka's none before the first-half buzzer sounded.

Following the intermission, Ryan scored two more goals only separated by four minutes of action. The first make came in the 54th minute while the second was seen in the 59th.

The host amped up the offensive pressure and received two more penalty corners which each produced a shot. Both were broken up and unsuccessful.

Heading into the final minutes of regulation, the freshmen duo of Maria Stalder (New Woodstock, NY/Cazenovia) and Rebecca Bonini (Avon, CT/Avon) ultimately put the game away. Stalder in her second start, dished a pass to Bonini to secure the convincing Hartwick win, 5-1.

In the budding season, Ryan leads her team with seven points while Bonini, freshman Allyson Quirk (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow), senior Maxine Dunn (Peterborough, NH/Conval), and White have added two each. Starting goalkeeper Shannon Carter (Falls Church, VA/J.E.B. Stuart) has registered 21 saves so far on the year.

The Hawks return to action when they visit Oneonta on September 7th at 4 p.m.
