ALFRED, NY – The Hartwick men's and women's swimming and diving teams dominated host Alfred on Saturday afternoon at Lebohner Pool. The men's 207-72 victory provided them with a 9-4 overall record while the women's 198.50-89.50 win pushed them to 7-6 on the year.
The groups of
Ally Agate (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg),
Gabbie Kiefl (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie),
Emma Reining (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) and
Taylor Diepold (Monroe, NY/Monroe Woodbury) and
Ally Schroeder (Plantsville, CT/Southington),
Natalie Athans (Victor, NY/Victor),
Victoria Argentieri (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) and
Bree Jefferds (Watertown, NY/Watertown) earned the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay with the respective times of 1:58.20 and 2:00.39.
Channing Lewis (Canton, OH/Canton McKinley) grabbed first in the 1000-yard freestyle racing in 11:22.80. On the men's side,
Brendan Quinn (Raleigh, NC/Heritage) too graced the top spot finishing in 10:17.57.
Lewis picked up another top accolade in the 200-yard freestyle swimming in 2:06.51.
Schroeder picked up an individual win in the 100-yard backstroke with the time of 1:04.70 for the women. On the men's side,
Aron Zhang (Douglaston, NY/Brooklyn Technical) was the recipient of first place honors finishing in 53.84.
Athans was the best in the 100-yard breaststroke earning the time of 1:12.49.
Ryan McLoughlin (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) too finished in the forefront for the 'Wick men earning the time of 1:01.21.
Reining (2:17.25) and Quinn (2:04.25) swam to first in the 200-yard butterfly for their respective teams. Reining also finished in first in the 100-yard butterfly with the time of 1:02.57.
Diepold (26.38) and
Joe Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield) (22.61) were the best in the 50-yard freestyle for their rightful teams. Mulvehill also grabbed first in the 100-yard freestyle swimming in 49.74.
Kyle Washington (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) picked up the win in 1-mtr diving with the score of 207.35 and also snagged first in 3-mtr diving with a 208.90 tally.
Jefferds got first in the 100-yard freestyle with the time of 57.65.
Schroeder (2:20.63) and
Brian Edmister III (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley Central) (2:00.84) earned first in the 200-yard backstroke for Hartwick.
Kiefl and Lewis won first in the 200-yard breaststroke and 500-yard freestyle, respectively. Kiefl did so in 2:39.89 while Lewis earned hers in 5:35.35.
Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney) topped his opponents in the 200-yard breaststroke swimming in 2:13.17.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Quinn tabbed first with the time of 4:58.22.
For the 100-yard butterfly, Zhang took first with the time of 53.52.
To cap off the afternoon, the groups of Diepold,
Olivia Bart (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern),
Rachel Bellis (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) and
Maddy Hayes (Eagan, MN/Eagan) and Mulvehill,
Zane Grunewald (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy), Quinn and Edmister won the 200-yard freestyle relay with the respective times of 1:45.68 and 1:30.78.
Next, both teams take Moyer Pool as they host Worcester Polytechnic Institute January 21 at 1 p.m.
