ONEONTA, NY – After a couple of weeks off, Hartwick's men's and women's swimming and diving teams took to Moyer Pool and hosted the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons Friday evening. While both 'Wick teams picked up wins, the men did so by a larger margin topping the visitor, 177-96. On the women's side, the Red Dragons fell, 181-111. Both Hawks teams are 6-4 on the season.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the groups of
Ally Agate (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg),
Natalie Athans (Victor, NY/Victor),
Emma Reining (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) and
Taylor Diepold (Monroe, NY/Monroe Woodbury) and
Brian Edmister III (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley Central),
Ryan McLoughlin (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes),
Aron Zhang (Douglaston, NY/Brooklyn Technical) and
Joe Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield) snagged first-place honors on each side with the respective times of 1.56.90 and 1:39.80 to commence action on the evening.
Channing Lewis (Canton, OH/Canton McKinley) (11.14.39) raced to first while
Rachel Bellis' (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) time of 11:23.66 was good for second in the 1000-yard freestyle. On the men's side,
Brendan Quinn (Raleigh, NC/Heritage) earned the first place time of 9:59.87 and
Isaac Waide (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale-Ray) swam in second in 10:32.04.
For the 'Wick women,
Maddy Hayes (Eagan, MN/Eagan) took first with her time of 2:02.31 in the 200-yard freestyle. In the same event on the men's side, Zhang garnered the best time and finished in 1:49.65.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Agate took first with the time of 1:04.78. Swimming in 55.56, Edmister credited the win for the men.
Gabbie Kiefl (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) finished in 1:12.87 for the women and McLoughlin finished in 1:01.02 for the men to both earn top finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The top time of 2:17.16 belonged to Reining which was good for first in the 200-yard butterfly. Quinn also grabbed a top spot in the event for the men with the time of 2:01.67.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Diepold finished in first racing in 26.11. Hayes (26.17) and
Olivia Bart (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) (26.69) took the next two slots, respectively.
Hayes, for the 'Wick women, took first in the 100-yard freestyle earning the time of 57.37. Mulvehill topped his counterparts with his time of 49.45.
Agate and
Zane Grunewald (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) earned first-place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke. Agate swam in 2:19.75 while Grunewald raced in 2:01.00.
The 200-yard breaststroke featured top times from Athans (2:39.69) for the women and
Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney) (2:18.74) for the men.
Lewis won the 500-yard freestyle with the time of 5:32.49. Quinn also beat out his opponents with the best time of 5:00.58.
Zhang took top honors in the 100-yard butterfly earning the time of 56.69 to round out first-place finishes for 'Wick.
Next up for the Hawks is a trip to Springfield, Massachusetts where Hartwick will battle host Springfield College and Union College tomorrow, January 7. The first event is slated for a noon start time.
