SPRINGFIELD, MA – During a trip to Springfield College, the Hartwick men's swimming and diving team beat out the host 193-91 and Union College 173-118 in a Saturday afternoon tri-meet. The women accumulated two losses, 225-75 to Springfield and 199-95 to Union. The 'Wick men advance to 8-4 on the season while the women stumble to 6-6 overall.
The group of
Brian Edmister III (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley Central),
Ryan McLoughlin (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes),
Aron Zhang (Douglaston, NY/Brooklyn Technical) and
Joe Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield) took top honors in the 200-yard medley relay earning the time of 1:40.09.
Brendan Quinn (Raleigh, NC/Heritage) picked up a first-place recognition in the 1000-yard freestyle with the top time of 10:00.19. Quinn also graced the top in the 200-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle with the times of 1:59.04 and 4:52.59, respectively.
Zhang finished in the forefront for 'Wick in the 200-yard freestyle racing in 1:47.02.
Maddy Hayes (Eagan, MN/Eagan) picked up the quickest time of any Hawk on the women's side in the same event swimming in 2:02.20.
Edmister came in second in the 100-yard backstroke with the time of 55.96. On the women's end,
Ally Agate (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) finished fourth earning the time of 1:04.69.
McLoughlin (1:02.27) and
Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney) (1:02.90) garnered second and third place finishes, respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Mulvehill swam to first in the 50-yard freestyle finishing in 22.54. He also had the best time in the 100-yard freestyle finishing in 49.54.
Hayes, in the 100-yard freestyle, came in fourth with a time of 56.67.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Agate for the women and
Zane Grunewald (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) for the men, finished second with the times of 2:18.55 and 2:02.30, respectively.
McLoughlin grabbed second in the 200-yard breaststroke swimming in 2:17.55.
Zhang swam to first in the 100-yard butterfly with the time of 53.52 and in the 200-yard IM with the time of 1:57.35.
The group of Mulvehill, Quinn, Grunewald and Edmister also topped their opponents in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:19.31.
Hartwick will go up against Alfred a week from today on Saturday, January 14 at Lebohner Pool.
