ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick field hockey scored three times in the opening half of play in a 3-0 shutout of visiting Oswego State on Tuesday at Wright Stadium. Hartwick ups its season record to 9-5 while the Lakers fall to 5-6.
'Wick dominated the game, out-shooting Oswego 25-4, which including a margin of 15-1 in the first half alone. The Hawks also had an 8-1 edge in corners in the first half and finished with an 11-5 advantage.
Claudia Stone (Akron, NY/Akron) opened the scoring just 2:55 into the game. She finished from in close off a pass from
Maria Stalder (New Woodstock, NY/Cazenovia) for the 1-0 lead.
Less than 16 minutes later, the Hawks got an insurance marker.
Allyson Quirk (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) collected a rebound and punched it home and 'Wick had a 2-0 lead.
Hartwick wasn't done as just 7:19 later, the Hawks picked up their third tally. Stalder got the ball to
Tegan Robinson (Mechanicville, NY/Shenendehowa). She received the pass to the left of Oswego goalie Sarita Charap and beat her for what would prove to be the day's final goal.
The Hawks allowed only three shots in the second half. Two of them were saved by reserve goalkeeper
Laura Downey (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem).
Allyson Osborne (Nottingham, PA/Solanco) got the start and was not called upon to make a save in the opening half. Charap was credited with 17 saves for Oswego.
Hartwick is back in action on Saturday with a key Empire 8 game with Stevens. The third-place Hawks and sixth-place Ducks begin play at 12 p.m.
