ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick won 10 of 16 events on Saturday to defeat Brandeis University by a final count of 175.5 to 112.5 in the Hawks' first dual meet of the 2017-2018 season.
Channing Lewis (Canton, OH/Canton McKinley),
Emma Reining (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt), and
Olivia Bart (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) led the way for Hartwick with two individual wins apiece.
Tori Argentieri (East Amherst, NY/Clarence),
Natalie Athans (Victor, NY/Victor), Reining, and Bart began the day with a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:57.80). Lewis then registered the first individual victory for the Hawks in the 1000 free (11:23.03). She would register her second win later in the meet in the 500 free in a time of 5:38.38.
Abby Schwartz (Olean, NY/Olean) took second as the Hawks placed 1-2 in the event.
Reining won both butterfly events. She took first in the 100 fly in 1:02.62 and the 50 in 28.10. Argentieri was second in the latter event for the Hawks.
Bart was tops in the sprint free events. Both her and
Maddy Hayes (Eagan, MN/Eagan) were 1-2 in both races. Bart won the 50 in 26.10 and the 100 in 58.28. Hayes would capture the 200 free in 2:05.86 with Lewis taking second place.
Mikayla Vellenga (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) earned the top score in both diving events. She scored 199.10 in the 1-meter event and followed it up with a 173.10 in the 3-meter competition.
Hartwick hosts a quad-meet with St. Rose, Utica, and Cazenovia tomorrow with diving starting at 9 a.m. followed by the swim competition at 1 p.m.
