ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick rallied from a 2-1 deficit to take down Elmira for the second time this season and dropped a three-setter to host Oneonta on Saturday in the Red Dragons' Dig Pink Invitational. Hartwick ends its season with a 13-16 overall record.
In the opening match of the day against the Soaring Eagles, the Hawks fell behind after dropping the first set 25-22 and the third 25-18. Hartwick won the second set 25-16.
'Wick outlasted EC 25-23 in the fourth set to force a fifth and deciding set. The Hawks were the first ones to 15 as they claimed the set and match win, 15-10.
Kaitlyn Ludder (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) and
Rosa Maun (Redstone, CO/Roaring Fork) combined for 29 kills in the match. Ludder had a team-high 15 kills with eight digs. Maun had 14 kills, three solo blocks, and three assisted blocks.
Maria Sorriento (Tory, NY/Troy) chipped in seven kills.
Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) and
Jamie Reidy (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) combined for 54 digs with both players registering 27.
Erin Russell (Wantagh, NY/Seaford) recorded 38 assists and 18 digs.
Katie Boak (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and
Rachel Griffing (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) each collected 10 digs.
The Hawks' final match of the season against the host Red Dragons ended up being the tournament championship with both teams entering unbeaten. The hosts would grab the team title as they won all three sets, 25-22, 25-12, 25-16.
Maun earned a match-high 13 kills with Sorriento adding seven. Werner collected a team-high 16 digs with Reidy securing 12. Russell would dish out 16 assists.
At the conclusion of the event, Maun would be named to the All-Tournament for her efforts. The match mark the final one in the careers of Maun, Werner, Griffing, and
Nicole Wyse (Manchester, CT/South Windsor).
