Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Hartwick Women’s Lax Topped by SUNY Oneonta

ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick women's lacrosse team fell to local rival SUNY Oneonta, 18-6, on Wednesday afternoon on Red Dragon Field.

The loss moves the Hawks to 4-3 overall while the Red Dragons even their season at 3-3.

Two Red Dragon goals gave Oneonta a quick two-point lead just 4:19 into the game to the credit of Katie Flannery and Kelsey Cohen. Jaime Morris' goal six minutes later gave the host a three-goal edge.

Ashley Jablonowski (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) then garnered a save, rejecting Morris' shot, which led to a Hartwick clear. Emma Knapp (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) put the ball into the cage providing the Hawks their first point after 11:55.

Megan Young (Gansevoort, NY/Schuylerville) scored from Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) just under a minute after to bring the Hawks within one in the 12th minute.

Oneonta combatted the Hawks' brief spurt by firing off seven goals for a 10-2 advantage with under five minutes to play in the half.

Kayla Tracey (Bardonia, NY/Clarkstown South) disrupted the surging Red Dragons, finding the back of the net on a read from Hailey Pooler (Adams Center, NY/South Jefferson) at 25:23.

Both teams closed out the opening session trading goals including a tally from Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack) for 'Wick.

The second half belonged to Oneonta as the Red Dragons out-scored Hartwick 7-2 in the frame to take the game by an 18-6 final. Pooler and Ann Bosio (Canaan, CT/Housatonic Valley Regional) netted second-half goals.

Splitting time in goal, Jablonowski would finish with six saves and Carleigh Tarala (Tully, NY/Tully) ended with five.

Three conference games are on the horizon for the Hawks.  'Wick will first travel to Houghton Friday, March 31 for a 6 p.m. opening draw. Hartwick will then turn around and play Alfred the following afternoon.
