Rosenberg Notches Career-Highs in ’Wick’s 13-11 Victory Over Houghton

HOUGHTON, NY –  In large part to career-high productions from senior Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack), the Hartwick women's lacrosse team claimed a tightly contested 13-11 win over the Houghton Highlanders at Burke Field on Friday evening. The victory pushes 'Wick to 5-3 on the season and gives it its first Empire 8 win at 1-2. Houghton is 1-5 on the year and winless in league play at 0-2.

After trailing by one at the intermission, 7-6, Rosenberg netted five goals over 'Wick's eight-goal second half to equip the Hawks with the two-point victory. In doing so, the senior established new career-highs in both goals and points with eight and ten, respectively. Her points tally also inserts her into Hartwick's top-10 in program history.

Houghton struck first at Burke Field as the game would eventually undergo six ties and four different lead changes. Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) (2), Minnie Schupp (Menands, NY/Shaker) and Rosenberg (3) added goals inside the first period while the Highlanders' Jennifer Zacchigna led all players with four at the break.

Hailey Pooler (Adams Center, NY/South Jefferson) led her team with two helpers at the half before concluding play with a team-tying four dishes. Werner notched her four in the game's final half.

Rosenberg's initial hat trick sparked a 3-0 run for Hartwick out of the break, the first of two runs in the second, only to be interrupted by a Houghton tally in the 18th minute, 9-8.

'Wick continued the streaking offense out-scoring Houghton 4-1 over the next 14 minutes. Rosenberg was credited with three goals in the span while Emma Knapp's (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) goal at 3:59 concluded Hartwick's scoring for the evening at 13-9.

Zacchigna netted two more in the game's final three minutes to settle the final score.

Chandler Jones led the host with eight assists while Zacchigna finished with seven goals. The duo combined for 12 ground balls, six caused turnovers and six draw controls. In net, Alison Clark stopped six balls all game.

On the other side, Carleigh Tarala (Tully, NY/Tully) and Ashley Jablonowski (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) split even time in goal registering six and four respective saves. Jablonowski earned her third win of the year.

Both Kayla Tracey (Bardonia, NY/Clarkstown South) and Pooler added six ground balls and a caused turnover for the Hawks' defense. Rosenberg won eight draws.

Hartwick rounds out a back-to-back weekend and closes out a three-game road trip tomorrow when the Hawks visit Alfred for a 1 p.m. start time.
