ONEONTA, NY –
Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) established new career-highs as Hartwick tied its largest margin of victory all year in a 23-3 defeat of Cazenovia on Wednesday afternoon at Wright Stadium. The win continues 'Wick's perfect all-time record against the Wildcats, 6-0, while putting the Hawks at 8-3 on the season. Cazenovia falls to 5-5.
Today, Werner added one more tally to her previous career mark which she set just a game ago. With two additional assists, her nine points earned on the afternoon also confirms another milestone.
Two other Hawks also notched season-best performances.
Kayla Tracey (Bardonia, NY/Clarkstown South) earned her first hat-trick in a Hartwick uniform while
Hailey Pooler (Adams Center, NY/South Jefferson) lit it up on the defensive end adding five caused turnovers. Pooler also finished with a game-high three assists.
Hartwick scored the game's first nine goals before a tally from Cazenovia's Kaitlin Sheppard interrupted the spurt in the 12
th minute.
In the span, the Hawks benefitted from the scoring of
Jennifer Darasz (Gorham, ME/Gorham), Pooler, Tracey,
Megan Young (Gansevoort, NY/Schuylerville) and
Abby Letourneau (South Portland, ME/South Portland).
Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack) also netted a pair of goals while Werner fired off five in the window.
The hosts turned around and tacked on three more tallies for a 12-1 halftime score before heading for the locker room. Werner scored a pair with one more from Young in the span.
Rosenberg and Tracey rolled out the scoring for the final 20 minutes before Cazenovia's Sheppard eked out her second score of the game at the 25:51 mark.
Pooler had a hand in two goals as the Hawks went on to charge seven more points to the Wildcats' deficit.
MacKenzie Bresett cashed in on her free-position opportunity with the Hawks a man down with just over five minutes to play.
Emma Knapp (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) and Werner would complete scoring at Wright by the two-minute mark to settle on the 23-3 final.
Cazenovia's keeper Abigail Kortz negated nine shots in the loss while
Ashley Jablonowski (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) and
Carleigh Tarala (Tully, NY/Tully) had five saves between them. Jablonowski grabs the victory.
Knapp, Werner, Rosenberg and Darasz each added a pair of helpers.
The Hawks get back to Empire 8 competition and travel to St. John Fisher, Friday, April 14 for a 5 p.m. start time.
