’Wick’s Four-Game Win Streak Ends at Nationally Ranked Fisher

ROCHESTER, NY – Hartwick women's lacrosse dropped a 17-3 decision to nationally-ranked St. John Fisher Friday afternoon at Growney Stadium. The loss snaps the Hawks' four-game win streak and puts HC at 8-5 on the season and 3-3 in the Empire 8. The Cardinals improve to 7-4 overall and 2-3 in the league.

Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) was the only Hawk to score more than once, connecting on both of her shot attempts. Hailey Pooler (Adams Center, NY/South Jefferson) also scored, earning Hartwick its first point of the afternoon. Megan Young (Gansevoort, NY/Schuylerville) and Emma Knapp (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) each lent a helper. Young also helped on the defensive end with one ground ball, one draw and two caused turnovers.

Ashley Egerter (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) matched a game-high three ground balls with Fisher's Cori Holbrook. Kayla Tracey (Bardonia, NY/Clarkstown South) notched a ground ball and draw control while Abby Letourneau (South Portland, ME/South Portland) and Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack) registered a ground ball and one draw, respectively.

Eleven Cardinals scored, paced by Morgan Young's three tallies. Jordan Johnson's six helpers aided her to a game-high eight points on the afternoon.

Fisher got off to a hot start in taking a 5-0 lead in the opening eight minutes of action. Pooler got 'Wick on the board at the 17:51 mark before the Hawks allowed three more goals.

Werner, on a feed from Young, added another point for the Hawks before Fisher score two more inside the first-half frame (10-2).

The Cardinals went on a 4-0 run to start the second. Werner registered her 35th goal of the season on a read from Knapp to round out the Hawks' scoring in the 16th minute. Fisher added three straight points to close out play.

'Wick will not get back to action until next Saturday, April 22 when it hosts Stevens for a noon draw.
