Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary) and junior football wide receiver
Koree Reed (Baldwinsville, NY) headlined the Hartwick College Intercollegiate Athletics Awards Ceremony, held in the Binder Physical Education Center's Lambros Arena, on Thursday evening.
Polak received the
Anna Meyer Female Athlete of the Year Award for the second consecutive year. Reed was crowned the winner of the Roy Chipman Memorial Award for Male Athlete of the Year.
Polak earned CWPA First Team and the CWPA All-Tournament First Team honors for the second consecutive season while helping Hartwick water polo to a third-place finish at the conference championships. She led the Hawks with 92 goals, 56 assists, and 148 points and became just the third player in program history to reach 400 points in her career.
Reed had a sensational first year with Hartwick football as he was named to both the AFCA and Associated Press Little All-America First Team. He was the NCAA Division III Statistical Champion in reception yards per game with an average of 160.6 yards per game, which was over 28 yards more than the second place finisher. His average was the highest receiving yards per game average in FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III football.
Women's soccer goalkeeper
Megan McGillycuddy (Glenville, NY) and senior men's basketball guard
Joey Lufkin (Argyle, NY) captured the Margaret Lunn Memorial and the Harry Mosher Memorial Awards, respectively, which are handed out to members of the senior class. McGillycuddy was named the Lunn recipient for exemplifying athletic ability, leadership and sportsmanship, while Lufkin was honored with the Mosher for personifying courage, desire, humility and unselfish devotion to his team.
McGillycuddy was the Hawks' starting goalkeeper for the last two seasons. This past fall, she logged over 1,388 minutes, registered a goals against average of 0.84, and made 68 saves. She ranked fourth in the Empire 8 in goals against average and fifth in both save percentage and shutouts per game in helping the Hawks reach the Empire 8 playoffs for the first time since 2002.
Lufkin was named to the Empire 8 Second Team for the second time in his career this past season. He averaged a team-high 18.2 points per game slotting him fourth in the Empire 8. Lufkin closed his career ranked sixth all-time in scoring at Hartwick with 1,636 points. He also ranks sixth in three-pointers made with 183.
Water polo's
Lena Kotanchyan (Moscow, Russia) was the winner of the Brunhilde Klinger Memorial Award for Most Outstanding Female Freshman Athlete. She was selected to the CWPA First Team and the CWPA All-Tournament First Team in addition to being named the conference's Rookie of the Year and Rookie of the Tournament at the CWPA's. Kotanchyan was second on the team in goals (84), assists (33), points (117), and she led the team in steals (62).
Hamish Ritchie (Aberdeen, Scotland) was honored as the recipient of the Tim O'Brien Memorial Award for Outstanding Male Freshman Athlete. Ritchie was named the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Men's Soccer Co-Freshman of the Year and selected to the conference's Second Team. He would also earn a spot on the Sun Belt All-Tournament Team. Ritchie finished the season tied for second on the team in goals (3), assists (3), and points (9). He was tied for eighth in assists and ninth in goals and points in the Sun Belt.
Men's sophomore cross country runner and swimmer
Joseph Ziegler III (Chicago, IL) was chosen as the winner of the LeRoy House Jr. Memorial Award, which is presented to the student connected with the athletic department who has exceptional enthusiasm and dedication to Hartwick Athletics. The recipient of this particular award has also displayed service to the Hartwick community in some capacity outside athletics.
Senior women's lacrosse forward
Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY) and junior men's lacrosse midfielder/defender
Eric Schweitzer (Babylon, NY) were chosen as the winners of the M. Beal Banks Award, which is presented to individuals who have best pursued excellence in their sport to the best of their ability and have enthused others with their dedication and commitment.
Men's soccer defender
Kit Tregear (Hassocks, England) and women's basketball forward
Courtney Cirillo (Johnstown, NY) were presented with the Frederick M. Binder Scholar Athlete Award, which goes to the senior male and female athletes who have played a varsity sport at least two years and have achieved at least a 3.25 grade point average.
