ELMIRA, NY – In an Empire 8 crossover hosted by Elmira, Hartwick volleyball knocked off the Soaring Eagles in three sets, the first time since 2007, and fell 3-0 to Nazareth Saturday inside of Speidel Gymnasium. The Hawks are 7-8 and 2-1 in league play. Elmira is 7-5 and a winless 0-2 in the Empire 8 while Nazareth is 8-4 and 1-4 in conference.
Against EC, HC won 25-18, 25-23, 25-17 while the Golden Flyers picked up 25-21, 25-18, 25-18 set wins over the Hawks.
Maria Sorriento (Troy, NY/Troy) currently sits fourth in the conference in points earned (3.57 p/s). She notched game-highs in kills in both contests landing 12 against Elmira and 15 over Nazareth. Versus the Golden Flyers, her three service aces also led the Hawks.
Erin Russell (Wantagh, NY/Seaford) did a bit of everything in each match, impacting both sides of the court. In the win, she led all with 29 helpers. She also got a pair of blocks and accumulated three service aces. For the second game, Russell dished out 24 assists, garnered a pair of kills, and contributed a service ace on the offensive end. She totaled nine digs and a block for HC's defense.
Rosa Maun's (Redstone, CO/Roaring Fork) 12 kills tied a game-high in the first match while
Kaitlyn Ludder (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) also gathered a match-best 12 digs.
Jamie Reidy (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) registered a team-high 11 digs and four added four kills against Nazareth. Ludder landed five kills while
Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) was
credited with eight digs.
The Hawks return home, Wednesday, September 27 and host Sage at 7 p.m. for a CODE BLUE event.
