WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Hartwick volleyball team split a pair of matches on the road on the opening day of the Lycoming Warrior Tip-Off Classic. The Hawks (3-3) debuted at Lamade Gym with a 3-0 loss to the host, Lycoming (3-1), before securing a 3-0 sweep over Clarks Summit University (0-6).
First game jitters got the best of 'Wick falling by the set scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-10 to the host in the tournament's first match.
Erin Russell (Wantagh, NY/Seaford) and
Jamie Reidy (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) helped direct the Hawks' offense contributing 10 helpers each.
Rosa Maun (Redstone, CO/Roaring Fork) connected for eight kills while
Katie Boak's (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) six digs led Hartwick on the defensive end.
Hartwick turned it around completely benefitting from 25-15, 25-12 and 25-20 set scores against Clarks Summit University to conclude day one.
Reidy registered a game-high 19 assists and
Maria Sorriento (Troy, NY/Troy) had six aces.
Kaitlyn Ludder (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) (9),
Erin Formosa (Waterford, NY/Waterford) (6) and Sorriento (6) landed kills while Ludder's tally was a game-high.
Nicole Wyse recorded three blocks.
Volleyball wraps up tournament action tomorrow, September 9, against D'Youville College and Nazareth. The Hawks will face D'Youviile, their second meeting of the season, at 10 a.m. and Nazareth in non-conference action at noon.
