Â
Recap: Hartwick fell behind 1-0 but netted an early goal in the second half to tie the score and added the game-winner later in the period for a 2-1 conference victory at Houghton Saturday. Samantha Hirsch gave the hosts the advantage just 2:30 into the contest. Despite an 8-3 edge in shots, the Hawks had to settle for a 1-0 deficit at halftime.
Allyson Quirk (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) had a shot hit the post and a
Perry Willett (Huntington, VT/Mount Mansfield Union) shot forced a Highlander defensive save from Leanne Plunkett in the opening 35 minutes. Quirk wasted little time tying the score in the second half, tallying after 86 seconds. Working in front of goal, she redirected a shot from
Maria Stalder (New Woodstock, NY/Cazenovia) for her fourth tally of the season. The winner would come at the 56:03 mark of the contest.
Tegan Robinson (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) would set up
Rebecca Peakes (West Chester, PA/Unionville) for her first collegiate goal. Houghton earned one more corner and one more shot with roughly 11 minutes to play, but
Allyson Osborne (Nottingham, PA/Solanco) was up to the task with her only save of the game to preserve the victory.
Â
Notes: The Hawks improve to 4-2 in the Empire 8 and maintain their fourth-place standing in the league with two games left to play. Hartwick is now 5-2 against the Highlanders all-time.
