ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick swept all 16 events in defeats of visiting SUNY New Paltz and King's on Saturday at Moyer Pool. The Hawks downed New Paltz 180-77 and the Monarchs 173-84 to improve to 6-0 on the season. In the process, head coach
Dale Rothenberger, in his 34
th season at the helm, reached 300 dual meet wins with his men's program.
Aron Zhang (Douglaston, NY/Brooklyn Technical) paced the Hawks with three individual wins on the day. He took first in the 100 back in 54.14, won the 100 fly in 53.91 with
Kaelan Betrian (Curacao, Netherlands Antilles/Trinity Christian) and
Pacal Fernandez (San Pedro, CA/San Pedro) finishing second and third, respectively, for a 1-2-3 finish. Zhang would also win the 200 IM (2:04.24) with
Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney) and Fernandez taking second and third for another 1-2-3 Hawks' finish.
Ryan McLoughlin (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes), Chernyak, and Baione also secured two victories for the Hawks. McLoughlin touched first in the 200 free (1:49.48) with
Joshua Garces (Lilburn, GA/Brookwood) taking second. McLoughlin also placed first in the 500 free (4:59.69) with
Max Ferrick (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) placing second.
Chernyak won the 100 breast in 59.63 seconds. He also was first in the 200 breast (2:12.12).
Hunter McRee (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) was runner-up.
Baione was tops in the 50 free (22.18) and 100 free (48.85) events.
Oleg Gentry (Stamford, CT/Trinity Pawling) won both 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.
Isaac Waide (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale-Ray) turned in a winning swim in the 1000 free (10:34.41). Fernandez was the victor in the 200 fly (2:07.48) followed by Ferrick and
Colin Leonard (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem).
Brennan Walsh (Westerville, OH/New Albany Plains) took first in the 200 back (2:07.71).
Rowan Poppen-Eagan (Puyallup, WA/Puyallup) was second.
Zhang, McLoughlin, Betrian, and Baione captured top honors in the 200 medley relay (1:39.28). Baione, Betrian, Ferrick, and
Zach Skelton (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) combined to win the 200 free relay (1:29.40).
Hartwick is back at Moyer Pool next Saturday when the Hawks host Nazareth at 1 p.m.
