Recap: Hartwick field hockey gave undefeated and nationally nineteenth ranked Washington & Jefferson all it could handle on Saturday at Wright Stadium. The Presidents capitalized on the first shot of the game early on and they withstood a late Hartwick charge to eke out a win. Alana Boyd scored for W&J seven and a half minutes into the game as her shot from the circle was deflected up and over Hawk goalie
Allyson Osborne (Nottingham, PA/Solanco) for the early lead. The half would end with Hartwick holding a 6-3 advantage in shots. The Hawks out-shot the Presidents 4-1 in the opening eight and a half minutes of the second half.
Katie Meuse (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) had two shots saved by Presidents goalie Rena Israel.
Perry Willett (Huntington, VT/Mount Mansfield Union) had another shot saved and
Allyson Quirk (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) had a shot blocked in the span. Behind a raucous alumni crowd, the Hawks pressed for the tying goal and thought they had it with 7:01 left on the clock.
Brooke Singer's (Johnson City, NY/Maine-Endwell) high shot eluded Israel to her right side but the referee whistled for a Hartwick infraction and the goal was waived off. Unfortunately it would be the last chance for the Hawks in the setback. 'Wick out-shot W&J 10-6 in the game and earned seven corners to the visitors' six. Osborne made two saves in goal for the home team. Israel stopped eight for W&J.
