PITTSFORD, NY – Nationally twenty-third ranked St. John Fisher scored the game's first eight goals en route to a 16-5 win over Hartwick's women's lacrosse team on Saturday in Pittsford. The game marked the Empire 8 opener for both teams. The Hawks slip to 2-3 overall with the result. The Cardinals improve to 4-1.
Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) led Hartwick with three goals on the day.
Emma Knapp (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) and
GinaMarie Wilson (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) also tallied for the Hawks.
Hailey Pooler (Adams Center, NY/South Jefferson) registered two assists.
Emma Kaplan (Danbury, CT/Danbury) added one.
Knapp and Werner scored in the opening half for Hartwick but the Hawks trailed 13-2 after 30 minutes. Wilson scored early in the second half and Werner would net a pair 8:12 apart later in the half.
Ashley Jablonowski (Levittown, NY/Island Trees),
Carleigh Tarala (Tully, NY/Tully), and
Jennifer Paszko (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) all saw time in cage for the Hawks. Jablonowski made three saves in 13 and a half minutes, Tarala stopped four in just under 32 minutes, and Paszko played the final 14:43.
Mattie Coffey (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) caused a game-high three turnovers. She also tied for a team-high with four ground balls.
Minnie Schupp (Menands, NY/Shaker) also had four ground balls.
St. John Fisher was led by Logan Chase, who scored four goals. Mackenzie LeVan and Allison Rupp contributed a pair of goals each.
