ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick started the game on an 11-0 run and won by a final count of 23-3 against visiting Sage on Wednesday night at Wright Stadium. Sophomore
Hailey Pooler (Adams Center, NY/South Jefferson) finished the day with a game- and career-high eight assists. Her last assist with 4:31 remaining in the game put the Hawks up 22-3 and gave her 37 for the year to break the single-season record she set last season.
Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) also topped the 50-goal mark for the season with her game-and career-high eight goals.
Hartwick improves to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the Empire 8 Conference. Sage falls to 2-7 and 1-4.
Werner scored the game's first four goals in the opening 7:11 of the first half for a 4-0 Hartwick lead. She would add two more goals with
GinaMarie Wilson (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) scoring three, and
Jennifer Darasz (Gorham, ME/Gorham) and
Emma Knapp (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) netting two apiece as the Hawks opened up a 13-1 halftime lead.
Minnie Schupp (Menands, NY/Shaker), Wilson, Knapp, and Pooler added goals in the first 5:27 of the second half to extend the advantage to 17-1. Werner and
Ashley Jablonowski (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) contributed two more tallies later in the half.
Cassie Durkin (Fayettville, NY/Jamesville Dewitt) and
Taylor Manzelli (Watervliet, NY/Shaker) also scored.
Hanna Layton (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) had three assists in the game.
Hartwick out-shot Sage 43-9 in the game. The Hawks also had more ground balls (26-16), and draw controls (20-8).
Fifteen different Hawks registered at least one ground ball, led by
Emma Kaplan's (Danbury, CT/Danbury) five.
Mattie Coffey (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) added four and Durkin chipped in three.
Knapp secured 10 draw controls. Pooler had four with Wilson contributing three. Pooler had four assists in each half. She now has 73 in two seasons with the Hawks and ranks second at 'Wick in career helpers.
Carleigh Tarala (Tully, NY/Tully) played the first half in goal and made two saves.
Jennifer Paszko (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) played the second half and also made two stops.
Martine Ianniello, Anne Risler, and Brittany Gage scored for Sage. Marina Azab (2), Jenna Cislak (5), and Carly Plaisance (7) combined for 14 saves in goal.
The Hawks have won five straight games and host nationally nineteenth ranked Stevens on Saturday at 1 p.m.
