HOBOKEN, NJ – Hartwick men's tennis was swept by host Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday morning 9-0 but the Hawks still clinched a spot in the upcoming Empire 8 playoffs. It marks the Hawks' first berth since 2009.
Hartwick closes out the regular season with a record of 7-4 and a 5-3 mark in the Empire 8. The seven wins are the most for the program since 2010 and their five conference wins ties a program record.
John Talbot (Middlesex, NY/Marcus Whitman) took six games in the first singles flight, falling to Kyle Henry, 6-2, 6-4.
Nikola Nedeljkovic (Portland, OR/Sunset) and
Tyler Adler (Pittsford, NY/East Rochester) won three games each in the second and fifth flights, respectively.
The Hawks will face the top-seed Ducks in Friday's Empire 8 semifinals. Houghton will serve as the tournament host.
