ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick men's tennis defeated SUNY Delhi (1-4) on Wednesday by a final count of 7-2. The Hawks improve to 2-0 and start the season with two victories for the first time since 2003.
           
The Hawks rolled to a pair of wins in doubles to start the day off. The Broncos would cut the lead in half as they took the third match. The duos of John Talbot (Middlesex, NY/Marcus Whitman) and Nikola Nedeljkovic (Portland, OR/Sunset), and Nick Adamou (New Milford, CT/New Milford) and Jack Steinman (North Haven, CT/North Haven) both won 8-1 in the first two doubles flights. Brody Rettle and Michael Zerniak outlasted Hartwick's Tyler Adler (Pittsford, NY/East Rochester) and Casey Serdiouk (Margaretville, NY/Margaretville Central) in the third flight, 8-7 (7-3).
           
Nedeljkovic, Steinman, and Adler each coasted to wins in their respective singles matches. Nedeljkovik took his second singles match, 6-4, 6-0. Steinman won 6-2, 6-2 in the fourth flight. Adler won 6-1, 6-2 in the fifth.
           
Talbot defeated Robert Zawadzki in a tough straight sets win in first singles. Talbot edged out Zawadzki in a tie-break in the first set, 7-6 (8-6). He took the match by winning the second set, 6-3.
           
Adamou emerged with a victory in a super tie-breaker over Marcos Andrino. He won the first set 6-4, before falling in the second, 5-7. In the super tie-breaker, he was the first to 10 points (10-3) to claim the win.
           
Serdiouk took his sixth singles match to a super tie-breaker. He dropped the first set to Delhi's Michael Beebe, 3-6, before winning the second, 6-4. Beebe would edge Serdiouk in the super tie-breaker, 10-7, for the Broncos' second win of the day.
           
Hartwick returns to its Empire 8 schedule this weekend with a pair of matches. The Hawks play Nazareth on Saturday and St. John Fisher on Sunday. Both games will be played at Elmira College and begin at 1 p.m.
