Recap: Hartwick men's soccer trailed visiting Farmingdale State by just a goal for nearly 60 minutes on Sunday on Elmore before a late insurance goal put the game away for the Rams in a 2-0 win. Farmingdale took the lead at 29:03 on a goal from Brayan Cruz. A corner from Alec Chapoteau was headed at goal by Cruz. The ball was cleared off the goal line by Hartwick's
Kaleb Figueroa (Chicopee, MA/Chicopee). The rebound, however, went right back to Cruz and he buried his second chance for the 1-0 lead. The Hawks had their best chance of the day with roughly six minutes left in the opening half.
Troy Amegashie (Accra, Ghana/Tema International School) intercepted a pass 40 yards away from the Rams' goal. He dribbled into the box, cut the ball back, and played a ball across the goal to
Mikeil Legarde (Manila, Philippines/Hong Kong International School) on the back post. Legarde's first touch was heavy and Ram keeper Jacob Liese made the save. Farmingdale held a 6-2 edge in shots at the break. In the second half, the Rams had more shots than the Hawks by an 8-4 margin. 'Wick was pressing for the tying goal until Giovanni Lonetti delivered a pass to Thomas Hamel 35 yards from the 'Wick net. He got past a Hartwick defender and was one-on-one with Hawk goalkeeper
Aidan Wholihan (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's Annapolis), beating him to his right-hand side with just 1:59 left to play. Wholihan and Liese would both end the match with three saves in their respective goals. Legarde and Figueroa each had two shots for Hartwick.
Aryaan Jhingon (Manila, Philippines/International School Manila) and
Jimmy Noel (Cap Haitian, Haiti/Baldwin) had one apiece.
John Scott's Quotes: "I feel bad for the team losing today's game as we attacked very well and caused problems for Farmingdale, especially through the first half. We learned another hard lesson in the goal we conceded because we don't pick up in the box. For as well as we played, a free header punished our defending for 1-0 at half time. As the game reached its latter stages we went man for man at the back in an attempt to get more men forward, and this resulted in Farmingdale's second goal. I can't fault our attitude to work hard today, and for the ability we showed to positively respond following the midweek trip to Harrisburg. For parts of today's game we showed progress again, and that was pleasing in the grand scheme of things."
