Recap: SeniorsÂ
Rachel Pine (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls),Â
Rachel Weir (New Milford, CT/New Milford) and sophomore
Gabrielle Kreppein (Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) each had a hand in both goals in the second half to lead Hartwick to a 2-0 clean sheet over Alfred on Saturday on Elmore Field. The win snaps a two-game slide for the Hawks. The first half would finish deadlocked with both teams combining for just five shots in a defensive battle. The Hawks would get on the scoreboard 13 and a half minutes into the second half.
Kiley Richardson (Flanders, NJ/Roxbury) served a corner kick into the Saxon box and Kreppein
got a foot on the ball at the back post directing it back toward goal. Pine was there to head past Alfred keeper Makenzie Cashmer for a 1-0 advantage. The game stayed a one-goal contest for the next 24 minutes until Kreppein received a pass from Pine. Running onto the ball away from goal, Kreppein unleashed a world class curling strike from 22 yards away that sailed over the head of Cashmer and into the side netting for an insurance goal with 7:18 left in the game. Weir
also credited with an assist on the play. The Hawks ended the match with a 13-6 edge in shots. They earned four corners to the Saxons' three.
Cassandra Robataille (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) made six saves in goal to earn her fifth clean sheet of the season. She now has 14 over the last two campaigns.
Â
Game Notes: The game was a rematch of last season's Empire 8 semifinal played on Elmore which was also won by the Hawks by a 2-0 score. Hartwick improves to 31-1-4 against the Saxons all-time.
