ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick women's swimming and diving team started off 2019 with a victory over SUNY Cortland on Saturday afternoon, winning nine of 16 events on the way to a 158-136 win. The Hawks are now 9-1 for the season.
Channing Lewis (Canton, OH/Canton McKinley) had three individual first-place finishes. She won the 1000 free by over 13 seconds, touching up in 11:13.95, the 200 back in 2:18.47, and the 500 free in 5:30.27. Gina Grauer (West Lawn, PA/Wilson) also had multiple wins, taking the 100 breast (1:09.47) and the 200 breast (2:33.86).
Emma Reining (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt), Olivia Bart (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern), and Cecelia Mowrey (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) had the other three individual wins for the Hawks. Reining took the 200 fly in 2:17.49, and also came in second in the 100 fly (1:01.70). Bart won the 100 free, clocking in at 24.93, and also grabbed the silver in the 100 free at 55.21, just two-tenths of a second behind the first-place finisher. Mowrey got the win in the 200 IM with a time of 2:19.33, and finished in second place in both the 100 breast (1:12.72) and 200 breast (2:39.68).
Abby Schwartz (Olean, NY/Olean) had three second-place finishes during the meet; she finished second to Lewis in the 500 and 1000 free, with respective times of 5:35.52 and 11:26.98, and also was first runner-up in the 200 free, with a time of 2:05.98.
'Wick won one of the day's two relays, as a team of Lewis, Grauer, Reining, and Bart took the meet-opening 200 medley by over a second in 1:55.50.
The Hawks are back at it in one week, when they host Springfield and Union for a tri-meet on Saturday, January 12. The diving starts at 9 a.m., and the swimming begins at 1 p.m.
