ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick played a dominant second quarter and rolled to a 13-7 victory over city-rival Oneonta on Tuesday at Red Dragon Field.
Kainen Francis-Thompson (Hogansburg, NY/Massena) scored four goals for the Hawks.
Chris VanDemark (Painted Post, NY/Corning Painted Post) added three tallies.
After a first-quarter lead of 3-2 for the Red Dragons, the Hawks erupted for five straight goals in the second quarter. Francis-Thompson netted three of the Hawk tallies in the quarter. Oneonta got as close as three early in the third period but three straight Hartwick goals shut the door in the third quarter for the Hawks' third straight win in the series for 'Wick.
Hartwick fell behind after the first quarter but Franncis-Thompson found the net three times with VanDemark and
Mike Majchrzak (Plantsville, CT/Southington) also tallying.
In the third, VanDemark tallied twice with Francis-Thompson also scoring to make it a 10-4 game. After an early Oneonta goal in the fourth quarter,
Justin Curreri (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point) and
Tim Watson (Wrentham, MA/King Philp Regional) each scored to put the game away.
C.J. Alesandrini (Schenectady, NY/Colonie) made 13 saves in the contest
. Alec Lind (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) led all players with nine ground balls.
Garrison Wojas (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge) had eight. He also caused two turnovers.
Nick Covaris (Seaford, NY/Seaford) added four ground balls.
The Hawks next play on Saturday at Potsdam at 1 p.m.
