Men’s Lacrosse Increases Streak to Seven as Hawks Defeat Emmanuel 16-7

BOSTON, MA – Four Hawks combined for 13 goals and seven assists on Saturday as Hartwick's men's lacrosse team won for the seventh time in a row in a 16-7 victory over Emmanuel College. The Hawks trailed 2-1 after one quarter of play but they erupted for eight straight goals in the second quarter to blow the game open. With the win, the Hawks are now 7-1 and their seven consecutive wins is tied for the second-longest win streak in program history. Emmanuel drops to 2-9 overall with the loss.
           
Sam Ferguson (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) and David Demand (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) each had a four-goal day for the Hawks. Ferguson added two assists and Demand contributed one. Tim Watson (Wrentham, MA/King Philip Regional) chipped in three goals and two helpers for the Hawks. Kainen Francis-Thompson (Hogansburg, NY/Massena) scored twice and he dished out two assists.
           
The Hawks opened the scoring 5:36 into the game on a Watson unassisted tally but the Saints got the next two 2:34 apart to grab a 2-1 lead. Justin Curreri (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point) opened the second quarter with a man-up goal from Demand after 39 seconds. It would mark the first of eight straight goals in the quarter and 10 overall as 'Wick took command. Ferguson would score three times in the second-quarter rally. Alec Lind (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake), Demand, Francis-Thompson, and Nick Couvaris (Seaford, NY/Seaford) also found the net for the Hawks and they led by a count of 9-2 at halftime.
           
Ferguson added his fourth goal of the game 16 seconds into the third quarter on the man-up. Francis-Thompson added a tally 1:12 later for the Hawks' 10th straight goal and an 11-2 advantage. Emmanuel stopped the string with a goal at the 10:34 mark of the period, but Watson scored at 5:23 and Demand tallied the Hawks' fourth man-up goal of the day 1:32 later as 'Wick took a 13-3 lead heading into the final quarter.
           
Watson netted his third of the day with 8:33 left in the contest. Demand then scored back-to-back goals 47 seconds apart to close out the Hawks' scoring before the Saints scored the game's final two goals.
           
Hartwick out-shot Emmanuel 45-21 in the contest. The Hawks had a 32-29 edge in ground balls and won 14-of-25 face-offs.
           
Curreri finished the game with a goal and two assists. Mike Majchrzak (Plabtville, CT/Southington) and Dylan Ferguson (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) each contributed assists.
           
Garrison Wojtas (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge) led all players with six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Kyle Pearson (North Haven, CT/North Haven) added four ground balls in the game. Dylan Reynolds (Tappan, NY/Tappan Zee) won 8-of-13 draws. Goalie C.J. Alesandrini (Schenectady, NY/Colonie) played all 60 minutes in cage. He finished the day with six stops.
           
Hartwick is back in action on Wednesday against Sage. With a win, the Hawks can tie the program record with eight straight victories.
