ONEONTA, NY – The 'Wick women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to visiting Oswego State on Saturday afternoon at Wilber Park Courts to slip to 0-2 on the season. The Lakers were playing in their 2019 opener.
           
Oswego won all three doubles matches by identical 8-2 scores. In singles play, the Hawks were victors in the first two flights. Victoria Wilson (Trenton, NY/Trenton Catholic) outlasted Lorrayne Broach in first singles. She won the first set 6-4 before dropping set number two 5-7. In the super tie-breaker, Wilson came through 10-5 to claim her first win of the season.
           
Skylar Watts (Rome, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) did the same in second singles. Watts, however, won in straight sets over Eliza Johnson, 6-2, 7-5.
           
Jessica Best (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) nearly came away with a victory in fourth singles. After splitting the first two sets, Best's opponent, Lora Gould, edged her out 10-7 in the super tie-breaker.
           
The Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, September 4 at SUNY Delhi beginning at 4 p.m.
