ONEONTA, NY – SUNY Oneonta took the spoils on Wednesday in women's tennis action at Wilber Park Courts with a 9-0 victory over the Hartwick Hawks. The Red Dragons remain unbeaten on the season with a 5-0 mark. The Hawks slip to 1-4.
Victoria Wilson (Trenton, NY/Trenton Catholic) and
Skylar Watts (Rome, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) came up short in first doubles for the Hawks, falling by a margin of 8-4 to Mya Lipscomb and Stephanie Menoutis, as the Red Dragons swept all three matches.
In singles,
McKenzie Rider (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca) won five games in her first collegiate match at the sixth flight. She lost the match to Menoutis 6-2, 6-3.
Watts dropped a 6-3, 6-1 match at number two singles to Emily Greene.
Jessica Best (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) also won four games but lost to Ariel Loucks in fourth singles. Wilson fell 6-1, 6-2, to Rebecca Macdonald in the first flight.
Hartwick opens up Empire 8 Conference play on Saturday, September 14 at St. John Fisher beginning at 1 p.m.
