ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick's tennis team came up short to Empire 8 rival Alfred on Wednesday, falling 8-1. The Hawks won one match and nearly pulled off two more on the day.
The duo of
McKenzie Rider (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca) and
Alyssa Wadsworth (Ilion, NY/Central Valley Academy) combined for their first doubles win of the season in the third flight. They would top the Saxon team of Madison Palmer and Isabelle Benoit in a tie-breaker 8-7 (7-3).
Both Rider and Wadsworth came close to victory in their singles matches, with both falling in super tie-breakers. Rider lost a 6-2, 1-6, 10-8 decision to Palmer. Wadsworth fell to Benoit 7-5, 4-6, 10-7.
The Hawks host Nazareth in another Empire 8 match on Saturday, September 21 beginning at 1 p.m.
