PITTSFORD, NY – For the second straight match, the Hartwick men's soccer team took its opponent to overtime but would come away empty as the Hawks fell in overtime at St. John Fisher, 3-2, in a game played at Growney Stadium in Pittsford.
Colin Witman scored on a cross 6:52 into the first extra session to give the Cardinals the victory. The Hawks, who were playing their first Empire 8 opponent of the season, slip to 1-5 on the campaign. Fisher gets its first win, improving to 1-6 overall.
The Cardinals broke the ice inside ten minutes as Brennan Brown tallied on a feed from the right side from Justin Bonetto for a 1-0 advantage.
The half would end with the hosts maintaining their lead. They would hold a slim edge in shots in the opening 45 minutes, 6-5.
The Hawks stormed out of halftime to grab the lead in the first six minutes.
Troy Amegashie (Accra, Ghana/Tema International School) netted his third goal of the season 2:37 into the half to tie the score as he found the net to the near post after a pass from
Eddie Carpio (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) sent him in 1v1 with Cardinal keeper Aaron Smith. Amegashie was at it again less than three minutes later as he pounced on a loose ball in front of the goal for his fourth tally and the Hawks were ahead, 2-1.
Joey Bertone (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) started the play with a cross from the left side of the Cardinal goal.
Ansh Budwar's (Pune, India/Akash International School) header hit the far post and the ball bounced back in front of goal where Amegashie hammered home for the lead.

The Hawks would generate three corners the rest of the half and they out-shot the Cardinals 6-4, which included a pair of shots from Bertone and Amegashie that forced saves from Smith, but regulation ended in the deadlock.
In the overtime,
Jake Zona (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and
Hector Ferreira (Williston Park, NY/The Wheatley School) each had shots blocked by Cardinal defenders in the first seven minutes. But just 28 seconds after Ferreira's effort, Witman scored the clincher from Joe Balls and Ben Woolingham.
The Cardinals had a slight advantage in shots for the match, 20-18. The Cardinals registered nine corners to the Hawks' four.
Amegashie and Zona each had five shots for Hartwick with Bertone adding three.
Britt Reisman (Vero Beach, FL/Saint Edward's School) played all 96:52 and he made five saves. Smith finished with eight stops in the Cardinal goal.
Hartwick returns home for its Code Blue match on Elmore Field on Wednesday night against Clarks Summit. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
