Men’s Soccer Drops First Home Game of Season To Elmira

ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick men's soccer team lost their first game on the Elmore grass of the season Wednesday night, falling in a 1-0 decision to Elmira. The Hawks are now 6-4-2 on the season and 1-3-1 in the Empire 8, and have some work to do if they want to secure a conference playoff berth. The Soaring Eagles improve to 7-6-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the E8.

Neither team generated much offense on the night, with both sides putting up five shots apiece, two on target. It took until the 64th minute for the icebreaker, as Elmira earned a free kick in a dangerous position just off the corner of the penalty area. Gavin Wise stepped up and curled a beautiful ball that an unmarked Lutho Mlunguza beat Hartwick goalkeeper Jodi Johnson (Seaford, DE/Sussex Technical) to and headed in for the eventual winner.

Johnson played all 90 minutes in net, making one save.

'Wick will look to right the ship on Saturday, as they travel to Buffalo to play future Empire 8 member Medaille at 4 p.m.
