UTICA, NY – The host Utica Pioneers swept the Hartwick Hawks in Empire 8 women's tennis on Saturday at the Todd & Jen Hunt Sports & Recreation Center, 9-0. 'Wick slips to 0-4 on the season. UC improves to 2-2.
           
Freshman Jade Killikelly (Jamaica, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) lost a tight match in first singles to Utica's Ellen Collie, who is unbeaten on the season. After falling in the first set, 6-2, Killikelly took Collie to a tie-break in the second set before succumbing 7-6 (7-4).
           
Sophomore Cierra Barkley (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) took four games off of UC's Bianca Bockhaus in third singles. She fell, 6-3, 6-1.
           
The Hawks return to action next Saturday when they travel to Houghton College for a pair of conference matches. They first take on Alfred University at 1 p.m. before playing the host Highlanders at 4 p.m.
