ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick women's tennis team was back in action today after an abbreviated season in the spring, dropping their first match of the season to city rival SUNY Oneonta, 9-0.
Jade Killikelly (Jamaica, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) had the best go of it on the day, taking her top singles opponent to the third set but ultimately losing 3-6, 6-1, 8-10. She also combined with Victoria Wilson (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Catholic Academy) for the team's top performance in doubles, losing to Oneonta's #1 doubles pair Madeline Carswell and Sophia Schutte by a score of 8-5.
Ryann Ashby (Malta, NY/Ballston Spa) and Colleen Marsh (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) made their collegiate debuts at second doubles, losing 8-3, while fellow freshman Val Kohberger (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse Academy) and Jessica Best (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) tapped out at 8-2 in third doubles.
At sixth singles, Marsh took the first set 6-1 against Jessica Harris but dropped the next two 0-6 and 8-10 for the three-set loss.
The Hawks are back to it this Wednesday, September 8, when they travel to Mount Saint Mary College for a 4:30 p.m. match.
