Hawks Dominate Offensively, Down Mavericks 8-0

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hawks overpowered the visiting Mavericks, picking up an Empire 8 win and their first of the 2022 campaign on Saturday afternoon.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • The Hawks dominated Medaille from start to finish.
  • Hartwick got off 36 shots on the afternoon, putting 25 of them on goal.
  • Aly Fish (Gansevoort, N.Y.) put the Hawks on the board early with a one-time strike from right to left from the top of the box for her first goal of the season.  Gianna Cacciola (Wading River, N.Y.) picked up the assist.
  • Fish would switch to the set-up role on the Hawks' second goal, finding Hannah Bochniak (Barneveld, N.Y.) for her first goal of the season in the 17th minute.
  • The Hawks continued to put the ball on net, but the Maverick's keeper kept Hartwick off the board for the remainder of the first half.
  • However, from the 65th minute on the Hawks could not miss, rattling off six goals over the next 25 minutes.
  • Cacciola started off the second half scoring on a 1v1 breakaway, slipping the ball past the keeper and inside the left post.
  • Nicasia Santos (Flemington, N.J.) tallied her first collegiate goal in the 67th minute off of a rebound.
  • Myah Johnston (Roxbury, N.Y.) tacked one on in the 78th minute.
  • In the 81st and 83rd minutes respectively, two more Hawks picked up their first collegiate goals.  Cynthia Aponte (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) notched the one in the 81st and Sydney Franza (Ellenville, N.Y.) notched the one in the 83rd.
  • Grace Byrne (Lynbrook, N.Y.) capped off the Hartwick onslaught with a goal in the closing seconds of the 90th minute.
  • Sara Staup (Woodinville, Wash.) picked up the shut-out victory.  Despite not facing any shots, the senior came out of the net several times to clear crosses and pick up balls that drifted too far from the Maverick attackers.
 
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
 
The Hawks hit the road on Wednesday for a non-conference tilt against the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds at 7 PM.
