WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks and Red Dragons matched each other from start to finish in the first half, picking up an identical total of shots, and penalty corners.
  • Hartwick opened the scoring with a tally from Sydney Gagnon (Chestertown, N.Y.) with an assist from Julie Ruzzi (High Falls, N.Y.).
  • After the opening Hawk goal, the Red Dragons responded with three unanswered strikes.
  • Cortland got on the board in the 6th minute, 15th minute, and 24th minute of action with all three goals assisted by Hanna Corrigan.
  • However, the Hawks were able to cut into the Red Dragon lead after Leah Tolley (Pittsford, N.Y.) crossed the ball in front of the cage to the waiting stick of Faith Weaver (Clay, N.Y.) for her second goal of the season.
  • Down 3-2 going into the 3rd quarter, the Hawks knotted the score up at 3-all when Holly Calore (Rocky Point, N.Y.) tipped in the initial drive towards the cage by Tolley for her ninth goal of the season in the 35th minute of play.
  • The Red Dragons went ahead 4-3 in the 41st minute.
  • Hartwick kept searching for another equalizing goal, picking up five penalty corners in the 4th quarter.
  • Unfortunately, Cortland put up an insurance goal in the 56th minute to seal the 5-3 win.
  • Madison Maddocks (Garrison, N.Y.) suffered the hard luck loss despite recording seven saves including back-to-back stops in the early minutes of the 3rd quarter to set up Hartwick's game-tying goal.
