Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Falls on the Road at Alfred

ALFRED, NY – The Men's Lacrosse team was on the road at Alfred University this afternoon looking to keep pace in the conference standings.  Ultimately, the Hawks dropped the contest 6-12, moving to 5-4 (2-2) on the season.  Alfred improved to 8-3 (2-1) after the win.

A low scoring 1st quarter  came to a close after two late goals by the hosts.  The first Saxons goal came with 4:50 showing and the second with just 1:05 left in the quarter.  Those two goals proved to be the only scores in the opening 15 minutes of play.

Faced with the deficit, the Hawks rallied back, scoring in the 2nd minute of the next period and then again just 1 minute later to even the game at 2 apiece.  Garrett Frost scored the first and Pete Conley followed up with his first of the game at 12:09.  After an Alfred goal, Hartwick's Kainen Francis-Thompson answered right back to keep the game even.  However, in similar fashion to the first quarter, Alfred scored with 4:04 and 1:50 showing on the clock to take a low-scoring 5-3 lead into the break.

The 3rd quarter was evenly played once again, although Alfred ultimately outscored Hartwick 3-2.  Dylan Ferguson scored both Hawk goals in the quarter; the second coming on a man-up opportunity with 5:49 to play.  Late goals by the hosts once again tipped the scales in their favor, with goals scored at the 4:54 and :09 marks in the period.

The final quarter of play was all Alfred, with the Saxons outscoring the Hawks 4-1 to close out the game.  Dylan Ferguson and Pete Conley each scored twice to lead the way for Hartwick.  Jared Tiong-Smith played all 60 minutes in net for the Hawks, saving 15 on the afternoon.

The Hawks are next in action on Wednesday, when they play host to Utica University at 4:00 PM.
