Box Score Keuka Park, NY – The Hawks opened up their Empire 8 conference play this afternoon on Keuka Lake taking on the Wolves of Keuka College. Both teams went into the game with a record of 3-3, but it was the Hawks who dominated and got the win, 17-5 over the Wolves to move to 4-3 on the year and 1-0 in Empire 8 play. The Wolves are now to 3-4 and drop to 0-1 in Empire 8 play.
It took the Hawks less than two minutes to put their first tally of the game up on the scoreboard.
Katrina Marten found a cutting
Kristen Vaccarelli who found the back of the net to put the Hawks up 1-0. Just 45 seconds later,
Claudia Pollaro hopped into the scoring mix when she caught a pass from
Gabrielle Stringer and whizzed one past the Keuka goalie. The Hawks stayed hot and 30 seconds later
Ellie Masterpole tallied one of her own making the game 3-0.
Emily Madigan found her first goal of the day with 11:38 left to play in the first when she scored off a free position attempt making the score 4-0 and forcing Keuka to use a timeout. The Hawks stayed hot out of the timeout and
Masterpole tallied her second of the game off a dime of a pass from
Pollaro. Stringer once again found her counterpart
Pollaro on the crease where she hit the back of the net off a backhanded shot. It took just 6 minutes to build a 6-0 lead.
After a Keuka turnover caused by
Hope Carroll who then cleared the ball to
Madigan who hit
Emily Schaub with a quick pass she hit the net and advanced the game to 7.
Stringer got her first goal of the game off a successful clear and buzzed her shot past the Keuka keeper. Keuka showed that the game wouldn't be just the Hawks and found the Wick net with 3:24 to play in the quarter.
Masterpole was the Hawk that answered the Keuka goal with one of her own when she tallied her third goal of the quarter securing the hat-trick.
Stringer scored her second goal of the game to end the first and give the Hawks a 10-1 lead going into the second period.
The Hawks continued to dominate the game throughout the second quarter and it was
Schaub who opened up the scoring for them in the second when she took her defender and flew right past her to win a 1 on 1 battle with the Keuka keeper.
Vaccarelli scored her second goal of the day off a free position to bring the score to 12-1 in favor of the Hawks. A Keuka goal hit the back of the net and made the game 12-2 in favor of the Hawks with 4:39 left in the half, but it was
Schaub off a
Stringer assist that sent the teams into the locker room at halftime with the scoreboard reading 13-2.
Keuka opened the scoring in the second half when they made the game 13-3, but once again it was
Masterpole who answered the Keuka goal with one of her own off a free position. Keuka scored 2 more goals of their own and the game headed to the fourth quarter with your Hawks leading 14-4.
Pollaro joined the Hawks Hat trick party when she scored off a free position goal and
Masterpole followed her teammate with another free position goal making the game 16-4. Keuka would make the game 16-5, but
Schaub off a
Vaccarelli assist got the game to 17-4 and the Hawks moved to 1-0 in Empire 8 play.
Ellie Masterpole led the Hawks with 5 goals and
Emily Schaub followed right behind with 4.
Claudia Pollaro had 3 goals and an assist,
Gabrielle Stringer had 2 goals and dished out 3 assists,
Kristen Vaccarelli found the back of the net twice and her teammates stick once, and
Emily Madigan tallied a goal and an assist.
Samantha Miller finished the game with 3 saves.
The Hawks return to action this Wednesday when they travel to Utica to take on the Pioneers at 4 pm.
