Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Late Push Not Enough as Hartwick Drops Game to Nazareth

ONEONTA, NY – The Men's Lacrosse team dropped their first conference game of the season after this afternoon's 12-18 loss to the visiting Nazareth Golden Flyers.  Hartwick falls to 5-3 (2-1) while Nazareth improved to 4-7 (1-1) on the season.

Hartwick got on the board first less than 5 minutes into the game, when Matthew Locasto found the back of the net.  Kainen Francis-Thompson followed a couple minutes later with his first goal to open a 2-0 lead, but the visitors needed just a few minutes to tie the game and start a run that saw them score 11 goals to Hartwick's 1.  That huge run began midway through the first and went all the way to the 2:26 mark in the 2nd before Hartwick finally got one back.  Pete Conley found Shayne Kerrigan on the man-up opportunity with less than a minute to play in the half.  In an exciting play for the Hawks, Kyle McKee came out of net and stole a clear attempt at midfield, then found Francis-Thompson for a goal just 30 seconds later.  However, Nazareth was able to score once more before the final whistle and took a commanding 12-5 lead into the half.

Although Nazareth scored the first goal of the 3rd, Hartwick tallied the next two in what appeared to be another momentum shift.  Once again though, Nazareth took control of the game and scored 5 straight to end the 3rd and start the 4th.  Unfortunately, the deficit would prove too much to overcome.

Down 18-7 with 12:33 to go, Hartwick's defense picked up the pace and prevented any additional Nazareth goals.  Offensively, Hartwick connected 5 times in those final minutes to bring the game to its final of 18-12.  Four of those goals came in the game's final 3 minutes, with Locasto notching the final one to bookend the game for the Hawks.

Kainen Francis-Thompson led the Hawks with 5 goals, followed by Matthew Locasto with 2.  Pete Conley had a team high 2 assists in the game.  Kyle McKee took the loss in net, giving up 17 goals, but he made 16 impressive saves in just over 58 minutes played.

Hartwick will hit the road for their next game when they travel to Alfred for a 1pm game on Saturday the 16th
