Hawks Fall to RPI in Season Opener

TROY, N.Y. – The Hartwick Hawks field hockey team opened their season on Thursday night with a loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 1-0.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • Hartwick dominated the Engineers during the first two quarters of play, outshooting the home squad 15-7 and gaining seven corners to RPI's three.
  • RPI flipped the script on the Hawks in the final two quarters of play as they put up 15 shots and earned 9 corner opportunities.
  • The Engineers' found the back of the cage in the 53rd minute of action and held that lead until the end.
  • Sydney Gagnon (Chestertown, N.Y.) and Julie Ruzzi (High Falls, N.Y.) each posted five shots on the afternoon.  Gagnon put two on goal, while Ruzzi put one on goal.
  • Madison Maddocks (Garrison, N.Y.) suffered the loss in goal despite picking up 7 saves.
