WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Neither squad could get things going in the opening minutes as both teams lost the ball on interceptions on both of their opening drives.
- With their next possessions, the Hawks and Monarchs traded three and outs.
- It wasn't until Hartwick's third possession that they were able to move the ball down field.
- Unfortunately, the drive ended with a missed field goal.
- The Monarchs received the ball with just under a minute remaining in the first quarter, but their dive stalled as well.
- Hartwick took the ball back just ten seconds into the second quarter and they seemed destined for another three and out until a roughing the kicker penalty gave the Hawks the ball back and an opportunity to drive down the field.
- The Hawks used the momentum from the penalty to work their way all the way to second and goal before the Monarchs intercepted a Hartwick pass in the endzone.
- The Hartwick defense stepped up to force another King's three and out.
- The Hawks were able to capitalize on the following possession with Nick Andrade (Shelton, Conn.) putting away a 36-yard field goal with 6:10 remaining in the first half.
- Hartwick's defense continued to prevent King's from getting anything going offensively and their hard work paid off, giving their offense another chance to put up some points with just over three minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter.
- Kyle Szokoli (Greenlawn, N.Y.) distributed the ball on the drive, hitting Justin LoBasso (Honesdale, Pa.) and Naquan Bradshaw (Syracuse, N.Y.) to get the Hawks downfield.
- Carlvin McDonald (Central Islip, N.Y.) capped the drive with a 27 yard reception for the score.
- With the Andrade successful point after attempt, the Hawks entered halftime with a 10-0 lead.
- Unfortunately, the second half would not be kind to the home squad as the Monarchs went on to score 17 unanswered points to pick up the victory.
- Both teams relied heavily on their air attack throughout the game.
- Szokoli completed 21 of 45 attempts for 277 yards and a TD.
- In addition to LoBasso and McDonald, Nate Rath (Newport, N.Y.), Jason Fucci (West Babylon, N.Y.), and Logan Mullane (Goshen, N.Y.) each had a reception of 20+ yards.
- Jeremy Gerdvil (East Northport, N.Y.) once again led the defense with 13 total tackles.
- Bryan Grimes (Albany, N.Y.) picked up 6 total tackles and an interception.
- Owen Lawler (Enfield, Conn.) ended with five solo tackles and an interception.
