Hawks Stay Hot, Defeats Wilkes 7-2

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Women's tennis took their three-match win streak on the road on Wednesday afternoon, and are returning with a four-match win streak after defeating the Wilkes University Colonels 7-2.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • After having their first away match suspended due to rain yesterday, the Hawks did not skip a beat taking on the Colonels.
  • Hartwick took an early advantage taking two out of three doubles matches.
  • The second doubles combo of Phoebe Olson (Jamestown, N. Dak.) and Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.) were the first to finish with an 8-5 win.
  • The Colonels picked up the first doubles win, but Maggie Van Valkenburgh (Highland, N.Y.) and Maddi Morrison (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) took their third doubles match by a score of 8-7.
  • Colleen Marsh (Marcellus, N.Y.) was the first to finish during the singles round, making quick work of her opponent sweeping both sets 6-0.
  • Damita Bollers (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rebounded from her first doubles loss, to take her first singles match winning both sets 6-1.
  • Vanuga added another win at sixth singles to secure the Hartwick victory, defeating her opponent, 6-0 and 7-5.
  • Also winning matches at singles for the Hawks was Jade Killikelly (Jamaica, N.Y.), Ryann Ashby (Malta, N.Y.) and Marsh.

The Hawks will hit the road again on Saturday as they open their Empire 8 slate against the Medaille Mavericks at 1 PM.
