Women’s Swim and Dive Claim Convincing E8 Win over Saxons

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hartwick Hawks Women's Swimming and Diving team picked up a key Empire 8 win on Saturday, defeating Alfred 171-86 on the road.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • With neither team competing with divers, the women's dual meet focused solely on the swimming events on Saturday afternoon.
  • Hartwick picked up 11 points by opening the meet up with a win in the 200-yard medley relay.  Bree Dy (Matawan, N.J.) swam the opening leg, followed by Jacqueline Drown (Columbia, Mo.), Amanda Wilbur (Watkins Glen, N.Y.), and Meghan Geczy (Queensbury, N.Y.) swimming the anchor leg.
  • A 1, 3, and 5 finish bye Joelle Ocheltree (Libertyville, Ill.), Scout Easton (Evergreen, Colo.), and Victoria Balfe (Saint Joseph, Mich.) in the 1000-yard freestyle helped the Hawks extend their lead.
  • Hartwick took first and second place finishes in both the 200-yard free and the 100-yard back.  Ellie Baird (Wilton, N.Y.) led the way in the free, while Dy led the way in the back.
  • Courtney Pierce (Fulton, N.Y.) swept the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke, while Wilbur swept the 200 and 100-yard butterfly events.
  • Pierce added to her win total, picking up a first-place spot in the 50-yard freestyle.
  • Dy was a triple-winner in her individual events, taking the win in the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard individual medley.
  • Ocheltree and Baird finished five seconds apart in the 500-yard freestyle event, with the closest Saxon finishing nine seconds off of Baird's time.
  • Hartwick wrapped up the meet with a five-second win in the 200-yard freestyle relay behind the efforts of Pierce, Baird, Ocheltree, and Geczy.
