Hawks Outlast Wolves for 73-70 Conference Win

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Hawks withstood a late Keuka push to pick up a key Empire 8 win on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Wolves 73-70.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • The Hawks stayed ahead of the Wolves for the most part of the first half until Keuka put together a run with 4:46 remaining to tie the score up at 25-25.
  • However, a jumper by Cooper Francis (Lynbrook, N.Y.) broke the deadlock.
  • Keuka continued to stay on the Hawks, taking a one-point lead with 1:24 left before the half.
  • Jeremiah Boateng (Springfield, Va.) converted a layup in the paint to regain the lead, but Keuka converted one of two free throws down the stretch to tie the contest up at 34-34 to end the first half.
  • The lead went back and forth for the six minutes of play in the second half until Kevin Felasco (Liverpool, N.Y.) nailed a three at the 13:41 mark to turn the momentum into Hartwick's favor.
  • The Hawks would stay ahead for the remainder of the contest with Francis icing the game by hitting two free throws with four seconds remaining on the clock.
  • Francis picked up the double-double, pulling down 11 rebounds and picking up 15 points which included a perfect 5-5 from the line.
  • Bobby Connors (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) knocked down five three-pointers on his way to a team-high 19 points.
  • Anthony Girard (Chestertown, N.Y.) was the third Hawk to score in double figures, collecting 15.
 
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
 
The Hawks return home for the first time in two weeks as they host Elmira and Alfred on Friday and Saturday, February 3 and 4.  Tip for Friday night against Elmira is set for 7:30 PM.
