Hawks Soar Past Nazareth in Conference Win

Oneonta, N.Y. – The Hartwick Women's Tennis team hosted Nazareth for a conference showdown on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

 

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Nazareth 1 Hartwick 8

  • Location: Oneonta, N.Y.

  • Records: Nazareth (3-3, 3-2 Empire 8), Hartwick (7-3, 4-0 Empire 8)

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick began their afternoon with a swift 8-2 victory behind strong performances by the pairing of Ryann Ashby (Malta, N.Y.) and Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.).

  • The Hawks had to battle for their next two doubles victories, the tandem of Phoebe Olson (Jamestown, N.Dak) and Jade Killikelly (Jamaica, N.Y.) were able to overcome their opponents in a 8-6 win in #1 doubles.

  • Colleen Marsh (Marcellus, N.Y.) and Gianna Leggieri (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) stayed resilient and picked up an #3 doubles 8-7 win for a well earned doubles sweep for the team.

  • Killikelly ended her day in style with a convincing 6,0 6,0 win, soon after Maggie Van Valkenburgh (Highland, N.Y.) followed up with a strong 6,0, 6-0 as well.

  • Vanuga picked up the first set 6-3 but the second set was closely contested all the way through, Vanuga was able to power through and pick up a 7-5 win.

  • Marsh picked up a singles victory to give Hartwick a 6-0 lead.

  • With the match clinched, Ashby would beat her opponent 6,1 6,3 to give the Hawks a 7-0 match lead.

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks host Alfred University for their final regular season home match on October 7th at 1 PM.
