Hartwick Falls to #20 Hamilton On The Road

Clinton, N.Y. – The Hawks hit the road to face off against nationally ranked opponent Hamilton for their final non-conference match this season.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score:  Hartwick 1, Hamilton 2

  • Location:  Clinton, N.Y.

  • Records:  Hartwick (2-4-5, 0-1-3 Empire 8), Hamilton (6-2-3, 3-2-3 NESCAC)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick kicked the game off against #20 Hamilton, hoping to carry momentum from their last hard fought match and try to set the tone early.
  • The Hawks came flying out the gates, Gianna Cacciola (Wading River, N.Y.) used her blistering speed to jumpstart a counter attack and ran past several defenders, then slotting a goal from just inside the box to the lower left corner of the goal in the 8th minute for the lead.

  • Hamilton answered back with a goal of their own in the 28th minute, they would control possession for majority of the half as Hartwick looked to get the offense rolling again in the second half.

  • The second half began and the Hawk defense was put to the test after Hamilton opened up with several shots but none could find the back of the net.

  • Myah Johnston (Roxbury, N.Y.) posted the first shot for the team in the second half, the opposition made it difficult on Hartwick to be able to create forward progress.

  • The counter attack play was strong from Hartwick as Jenna Mierek (Prospect, Conn.) posted a dangerous shot on goal but was saved by the keeper as time began to wind down with the game still tied.

  • Bayleigh Ardito (Thompson Ridge, N.Y.)  made her first start in goal this season and was great as she posted ten saves against a potent Hamilton offense.

  • Hamilton notched the go-ahead goal in the 88th minute.

  • Even though the game ended in a loss, Hartwick played a great game against a nationally ranked opponent. Grabbing the lead early was a huge plus and helped the team settle down and play the brand of soccer that they are capable of.

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
