NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Hartwick Field Hockey scored first, but New Paltz rebounded to control play throughout the 2
nd and 3
rd quarters to take the 4-2 non-conference win.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- In the "Battle of the Hawks", Julie Ruzzi (Rondout Valley, N.Y.) found the back of the cage for Hartwick as they capitalized on their only penalty corner of the first half.
- Sami Shortino (Webster, N.Y.) picked up the assist on the insert.
- New Paltz took control of the remainder of the 1st quarter and throughout the 2nd, only allowing the Hawks to break past midfield a handful of times.
- The host Hawks notched 13 shots, 11 of which were on goal compared to Hartwick's six and five during the first 30 minutes of play.
- New Paltz also drew five penalty corners in the half, but were unable to convert those opportunities.
- However, New Paltz did find the equalizer with just under five minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter to knot the game up at 1-1 heading into halftime.
- New Paltz came out of the break, dominating the 3rd quarter, scoring goals in the 37th and 42nd minute of action after out-shooting Hartwick 14-1.
- The hosts tacked on one more in the early stages of the final quarter to give them a 4-1 lead.
- Hartwick would cut the lead in half in the 56th minute of play as Danielle Hand (Queensbury, N.Y.) notched her 9th goal of the season off of an assist from Ruzzi.
- Hartwick keeper, Ashley Luppens (Wading River, N.Y.) tallied 18 saves in the loss.
