Hawks Back in Win Column with Sweep at Sage

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Hawks rebounded from a tough loss to St. John Fisher on Saturday to take down the Sage Gators on the road 3-0 on Wednesday night.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score:  Hartwick 3, Sage 0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-19)
  • Location:  Albany, N.Y.
  • Records:  Hartwick (10-8 Overall, 5-2 Empire 8), Sage (6-15 Overall, 1-6 Empire 8)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Up by just one early in the first set, the Hawks broke free of the Gators with a key side out kill from Shelby Swartz (Candor, N.Y.) sparking a 3-point run behind the serve of Kaileigh Brandow (Manorville, N.Y.).
  • Sage looked to make a run in the middle of the set, but Hartwick pushed enough points during their serve to keep the Gators at bay to take the 25-18 win.
  • In the second set, the Hawks stayed just a step ahead of the Gators, forcing the home squad into nine attack errors across the set for a negative hitting percentage.
  • Hartwick held off a late Sage push in the second to take the four-point win.
  • The Gators rallied in the third set, ultimately taking a two-point advantage in the middle of the set.
  • The two teams were neck and neck down the stretch, but the Hawks capitalized on a late service error by the Gators to go on a four-point run to close out the win 25-19 to take the three-set match sweep.
  • Staecia Silofau (Kapolei, Hawaii) led Hartwick's balanced offensive attack with 11 kills.
  • The Hawks also relied heavily on their strong serve game which resulted in seven aces, three of which belonged to Shaelyn Thornton (Scarborough, Me.).
  • Brandow set the tone defensively for Hartwick, tallying 12 digs and putting away two assisted blocks.
