HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Hawks took care of what they needed to do on Saturday afternoon in terms of Empire 8 seeding, sweeping the Houghton University Highlanders 3-0 on the road.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Hawks rode the hot hand of Kaleigh Brandow (Manorville, N.Y.) with her serve and attack throughout the match.
- Up 5-4 in the first set, a kill by Brandow gave Hartwick a big side out, putting the ball in her hands on the serve.
- The outside hitter would go on to serve the Hawks to a 10-4 advantage.
- From there, the Hawks pushed points on enough held serves to take the 25-18 win.
- In the second set, the Hawks and Highlanders battled back-and-forth until the middle of the set.
- Staecia Silofau (Kapolei, Hawaii) put away a kill, breaking a 14-14 deadlock.
- Hartwick took that momentum behind the serve of Shaelyn Thornton (Scarborough, Me.) to take a 20-14 advantage.
- Houghton pushed back, but the Hawks put together another run behind the serve of Sarah Petz (Webster, N.Y.), eventually winning the set 25-19.
- In the third set, the visitors rallied early and never looked back, taking the 25-12 win to sweep the match 3-0.
- Brandow led the offensive attack with 13 kills and two service aces.
- Silofau finished the match with nine kills to go along with two aces of her own.
- Thornton also put away two aces.
- Vanessa Seymour (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) registered 33 assists.
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
With this win and a Keuka College loss, the Hawks have clinched the #2 seed in the tournament. They will host a semifinal match up on Thursday, November 9 against the winner of the Keuka vs. Utica first round matchup on November 7.
