WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Hawks struggled to get their offense going in the first quarter, only drawing two penalty corners and getting off three shots, all belonging to Julie Ruzzi (Rondout Valley, N.Y.).
- Hartwick continued to get off a handful of shots in the second, but it wasn't until Ruzzi cashed in on a penalty corner, finding the back of the cage in the 25th minute off of the Sami Shortino (Webster, N.Y.).
- The offense started to get rolling in the third as the Hawks equaled the number of shots taken in the first two quarters combined.
- Despite Hartwick's offensive efforts, a late quarter penalty corner drawn by the Gators ended in a Russell Sage goal, knotting the score up at 1-1 with 40 seconds remaining in the quarter.
- The Hawks came up empty again in the fourth quarter, sending the teams to overtime.
- Playing 7v7 in the extra frame, Hartwick came out strong, getting off five shots in a matter of a minute. However, four saves by the Gators' goalie and defensive save, kept the Hawks off the scoreboard.
- Three more minutes would go by without a tally until Ruzzi broke the deadlock for the game-winning goal in the 64th minute to give Hartwick the 2-1 win.
